Friday Nwosu Biography
Friday Nwosu, the National Welfare Officer and a member of the National Working Committee for the All Progressives Congress, has reportedly passed away.
Nwosu, a leader in the organization, once ran for governor of Abia State on the PDP platform before switching to the current APC administration.
Before being released on Wednesday, the late legal legend reportedly underwent treatment at an unnamed medical facility in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to reports, Nwosu returned to the same hospital on Thursday for a routine checkup. A source there confirmed that he relapsed and had to be rushed into the intensive care unit, where he passed away.
“All the NWC members, including APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, were shocked by his passing. Tomorrow morning, the secretariat will undoubtedly produce a formal report, the person said.
His remains had been placed to the mortuary as of the time this report was submitted.
Felix Morka, the party’s national publicity secretary, could not be reached for comment.
But, at around 8.20 p.m., the APC’s official Twitter account announced the death of the national welfare officer.
“RIP SIR F.N. NWOSU,” the message stated. The enormous loss that Sir Friday Nwosu, the party’s National Welfare Secretary, left behind for the APC family cannot be adequately expressed in words. May he rest in peace, his soul.
In a press conference he held on February 10, Nwosu made an appeal to former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development Uche Ogah and other irate stakeholders to make peace with Abia governorship candidate Ikechi Emenike in order to wrest the state from the Peoples Democratic Party. This was Nwosu’s final official assignment before the presidential and National Assembly elections.
Ogah, who also stood for governor, has appealed the Court of Appeal’s ruling in Abuja that nullified his candidacy.
In ruling on Ogah’s appeal, a five-member Supreme Court panel, led by Tijanni Abubakar, unanimously determined that the former minister’s appeal lacked substance.
The ruling party was concerned that the ensuing hostility between Ogah and Emenike’s supporters could cost them the state’s governorship race.
Speaking to journalists, APC National Welfare Secretary Nwosu pleaded with the opposing factions to lay down their weapons and cooperate for the party’s success in the state.
Even while he pleaded with Ogah to dismantle his political system and cooperate for Emenike, this was happening.
